EDUCATION BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The Education Board’s meeting was continued yesterday morning, Mr. Wade presiding over a full attendance of members. Whansamomcna. The Chairman of the Whangamomona, School Committee again wrote in reference to the committee’s application for a new school. He added: “In about two months’ time, when the road improves somewhat, the present building cannot possibly hold the numbers coming forward. It will, therefore, be quite obvious that an addition at a very early date is absolutely necessary. When the building is being done, could not an effort bo made to get a grant for a teacher’s residence? At present the teacher is living in a tent, which, to say the least, is not a very dignified position for a teacher to occupy. The future of the district is now so assured that a decent-sized school and a residence will always ho required, even after the railway workers have gone past.” Mr. S. M. Mills, the teacher, wrote on the same matter, complaining that ho was compelled to live in a tent. The application for additions was referred to the Chief Inspector for a report. A Kaimiro Dispute. Mr. Trimble reported that he had visited Kaimiro to make enquiries as to the eligibility of Mr. James Gopperth to sit as a member of the school committee. He was of opinion that Mr. Gopperth was eligible.—The report was adopted, and Mr. Adlam gave notice to move at next meeting that the resolution declaring his seat forfeited he rescinded. ' General. Messrs. Morton and Cargill were appointed to act with tho inspectors and the technical organiser to go into the question of by-laws for compulsory attendance at technical and continuation classes. The appointment of Mr. John Rogers to the Bird School Committee was confirmed, vice Mr. W. H. Rogers. Correspondence referring to punishment of a pupil at Okoke school was read in committee and was referred to the School Committee for its report. Miss Edwards’ resignation of the position of assistant teacher at Hillsborough school was accepted. The Tikorangi, Inglewood. Whangamomona; Lepperton, Midhirst, and Ratapiko committees reported having temporarily closed their schools on account of epidemics.—Action confirmed.
