DISCUSSKJ) AT FARMERS’ UNION CON FE ItENCE. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, July 'l(s. The Commandant of the Forces General Godlcy, by request, attended the Farmers’ Union Conference to-day to answer any questions in regard tithe now defence scheme. The Genera! paid the authorities had already practically settled the training of mounted men in the country districts. It had been arranged that the training of Unmounted section should he late in the year—May, or even as late as .lime. In-regard to the thirty chills to he done during the year, many farmer, had suggested that drills should be lumped. Training, to bo of the greatest value, said the General, should be progressive throughout ■ he year, and he hoped farmers would meet him half way. The authorities would meet iarmors more than half way.
Several delegates suggested that the month r.f May would not suit Ca nter - hury, and General Godley su’d he would he prepared to have October It r Canterbury. Infantry camps would unquestionably be in sununer.
