o BREACHES OF ARBITRATION AWARDS. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, July 25. Before Dr. McArthur, S.M., to-day, Johnson and Son, printers, were proceeded against by the Labour Department for employing Isaac llawliinoy as a compositor from January 14th to May 24th, 1911, at £2 per week instead of £3 ss, as required by the Wellington Typographical award. The evidence showed that Mawhiney had been employed by Johnson and Son since June 18th, 1910, at 25s weekly, till November Bth, when he received £2 weekly. He could not, he classed as a turnover, as he had been about ten years at the trade, and was about 30 years old. Defendants were fined £lO.
Isaac Mawhiney, for accepting less than the award rate, of wages, was fined £l. William James Hart, butcher, at Island Hay, was lined £2 for breach of award in employing casual hoy labour.
