DUKE OF SUTHERLAND.
1 '- L - ’ Outlying portions of the Duke of Sutherland’s Trentham (dtaffordshire) estate vvoie offered for sale by auction ab dtoke-on-Trent recently by Messrs Knight, Frank, and itutley, of London. The total amount realised was £18,375. Micklow House Farm, near Stone, 162 acres, was sold for £6100; Hooksgrcen Farm, near Stone, 105 acres, for £3000; and Wall Grange Farm, near Leek, 397 acres, with tne addition of a dairy holding of 73 acres, an area of woodland of 22 acres, and several cottages, for £9275. These lots wore sold to occupying tenants. A farm at Hill Chorlton, 129 acres, did not reach the reserve price, and was withdrawn at £1225. It was stated on behalf of the Duke that it was with regret that he severed his connection with these estates, some of winch had been in the possession of his ancestors since 1540. The position of landlords holding land, however, was, unfortunately, not as it used to 1)3, and therefore he had decided to sell these portions of his land. The Duke, besides tho Trentham estate and his London house, has seats at Newport (Shropshire), Dunrobin Castle, and Sutherland.
