A COUNTESS’ REVENGE.
Lately it was possible’,to see a genuine c nintess wheeling a barrowFul of vegetables along the ( streets oi Paris.'"' / , She had come to find a trade necessary for subsistence, and she was wedded to a hnsbpud' who was. a .commercial traveller. She lias just poured a tureenfj.il of, boiling water over lien spouse,„ and, according; to a message from Paris, attacked! with a long kitchen knife a wqman whom lie had visited when he was supposed to lie out looking for orders. .The countess and her husband had lived in very modest circumstances, and it was because the count did not make much out of his Juiciness that Ids wife wont out with the harrow. He had seated himself at table for the midday meal, when the wife, came in with the tnrcenful of water. When she poured it over him he was terribly scalded, and fled from the place as fast, as lie could.
The countess at once proceeded to a certain house, and, knocking at a door, showed a photograph to the person who opened it. “You know this gentleman?” she asked. “He is my husband,” was the reply, “Well, madam, lie is in danger of death,” pursued the countess. “Follow me; I will take you to him.” The occupant of the flat put on her hat, and, with her visitor, got into a cab, and during the drive she indulged in a eulogy of her husband, as she called him. Her speech was brough to an end with a stab from a long kitchen knife. Her screams brought the cab ,to a halt. Policemen stepped up, and while the countess was being taken to tiie nearest station, the second woman was convoyed to the hospital, where she had a chance to meet the .count, who was already lying in one of the wards. Tiie countess’ discovery was recent; the attachment which she resented was of older date. She found the intimacy had lasted several years,
