Founds, informed a “Lost” representative that 'he hau made full enquiries into tiie case of tin. girl Briggs, who was sentenced to twenty-one days’ imprisonment lor abandoning hei iiuant child, and was not pup.ued to say that the eminence wa j uj’duly severe, bat he was ol cp iiion that as nothing was to bo gained by keeping the girl in gaol, she would be released. 'During the few days she had been in gaol she had not associated with criminals. Hie police have taken proceedings against the alleged father of the child.
