From the amount that lias been written and said about tiie new defence scheme, one would suppose that there was nobody throughout tin length and hreadtn of the land whe was not familiar with it; but it seems that there arc even those who have never heard of the scheme, as wit best the following letter, copied as near tt the original as possible, which was recently received at the Defence Office from a country lad:—‘‘July till2.—l did not hear of this Military Training until latly 1 was up in tiie backblockf, of the waitotara and did not hear ol it i am not againest it. it will do in a lot of good 1 am very sorry I die not hear of it. I was a way up tiu head Waitotara River—Yours truely.” Apparently, despite spelling anc punctuation, the scheme has a heart} supporter in this lad.
