THE HIGH COMMISSIONER.
(Per Press Association.) Auckland, July 17. Interviewed, the Hon. G. Fowlds expressed the opinion that the cable message re the High Commissionership could not he accepted', as a definite 'statement that Sir W. Hall-' Jones intended retiring from the position. The Minister pointed out that when Sir William’s term of office expired at the end of J,.no: Cabinet had no information to go upon, and decided to extend his tune until the end of August, awaiting the-return of Sir Joseph Ward. The view he (Mr Fowlds) took cf the position was that the cable man misunderstood the determination of Cabinet, and came to the conclusion that August would see the end of Sir W.
