TUKAPA (0). There was a large crowd on the Wa itara ground yesterday, when Clilton and T ukapa tried conclusions. T lie result gave Hilton a lead in the championship competition, with r.niy the TJtiiam match to play. Should Stratford beat Tukapa, and Clifton beat Eitlmra (this being in every way probable) the Waitara and Stratford teams will play off. A victory over Stratford by T ukapa will put VhHon at the top of the list in tuo northern division. T ukapa played .vichcmt Ho m-y field at full, and Clifton wcie without the services of Dußloic, Berntsoa and Sovoridge. Clifton won the to'.s and played with the sun at their nacks and with the slope of the ground in their favour in the lust spell. Mr George Hopkins was leferee.
A series of line-onts followed the kkk-off. Soon Tukapa were ifreed again, the green backs showing up well With good line kicks. The blues set up a vigorous attack, in' the course of which the referee felt called on to warn players for fighting. Mynott, Stohr, and G. Lovendge carried out a pretty movement, cue lastnamed rinding the line near the corner. From a forward rush, Brown picked up and wiiipped the oall out to Mynovfc, who cut in and passed to G. Lovovitlge, who was collared a few inches from the line. Clifton forwards made a strong effort, but Stohr found the line in .the corner. A couple of line kicks by Colrnan drove Tukapa to their own territory, and Cam very nearly scored. tukapa rushed right up to the coiner, but vJ. Tate marked on the line ,whereafter play gravitated hack to half-way. After some hot work, Tukapa came with a close forward rush, only a lucky “speculator” stopping them gettug over. From a mark oeyond the twenty-five, well out to the side i Tie, Stohr made a good shot at goal, lut failed, and Clifton forced. Inglewood seniors forfeited to Stratford.
Stratford second juniors defeated Inglewood by 46 to nil. Stratford first juniors forfeited to Inglewood. It is stated that the Inglewood seniors, thinking the matches postponed last Thursday would be played yesterday, arranged to play Eltham, at Inglewood, and when advised that they had to go to Stratford could not muster enough, men to enable them to tiavel. It is hoped, however, that the Rugby Union will allow the match to he played later.
Tukapa 11. have won the second grad? championship in this end, and Stratford the third grade champicnship m the northern division.
