The Minister of Minos met a conference of owners and employees and discussed the Mines Amendment Bill recently introduced in the Assembly. None of the principal Bill will be eliminated. EDUCATIONAL. Sydney, July 11. ■ Mr Seeby is placing a quarter of a million on the estimates for the purpose of modernising the school system, and making it more attractive to teachers. lie will endeavour to increase the staff. SUGAR STRIKES. Brisbane, July 11. Sugar-cutters are returning to work in small numbers. Many non-union men arc arriving from the- south. .Twenty-five strikers have left Bundaberg camp for work on the railways. AN ADVERTISING TOUR. Melbourne, July 11. The Young Australia League, of Perth, lias selected twenty-one hoys to tour the Australian capitals; thence to America via New Zealand, with the object of educating the boys and advertising Australia. EPIDEMIC OF MEASLES. : • Adelaide, July 11. There is an epidemic of measles here, introduced into Port Adelaide, by immigrants. Ali schools have been closed. Nearly JOG cases" have been reported for the month.
