Auckland, July 7. The Auckland Canary and Cage 'Birds’ Club’s annual show was opened this afternoon by Mr. Arthur IVlyers, M.P. Crested Lards were noticeably good, Mr. W. A. Hanson winning the North Island championship for the best crested canary, and tne cup for the best Norwich colour fed bird. The birds wore of an exceptionally good class, most of the prizes being won by Mr.. J. Cornwall. The Cinnamons were the best shown for years, whilst the plain head Nonvichos were excellent, Mr. Jones’ clear buff winning the North Island championship. Invercargill, July 7. Mr. Hazleton, 31. P., Irish delegate, arrived to-day, and was given a civic welcome and presented with an address. Ho spoke to a large and enthusiastic mooting this evening, the Mayor presiding. A sum of £IBO was collected, and the meeting unanimously agreed to a motion in sympathy with the Home Rule Party’s aims.
