INCURABLE CASES.

SUGGESTED HOME. Recently members of the Taranaki, Stratford, and Hawera Hospital Hoards held a conference in Stratford regarding providing accommodation for incurable patients, and a draft agreement, was drawn up, which placed the control of the institution, which was to be erected in New Plymouth, in the hands of a committee of delegates from the three Boards. Mr. Bellringer (chairman of the Taranaki Hospital Board) waited on the Stratford Hospital Board at its meeting yesterday in reference to the agreement. He said the parties had conferred in Wellington on the matter, and it had been decided that a committee consisting of delegates from the three Boards could not be the controlling authority. The agreement was altered to read that the Taranaki Board be the controlling authority. There was nothing to stop a committee of delegates from the Boards acting as an advisory committee. Mr. Ward moved that the amended agreement bo approved. Ho really thought that the correct thing to he done regarding incurables was for the Government to erect two big homes—one in the North Island and one in the South Island. Mr. Marfell said that under the provision for contributions some years some Boards might suffer at the expense of the others, but lie thought the provision would be found to work out fairly to all. As to the control by the Taranaki Board, lie felt sure the Government would check any extravagant expenditure. Since lie had been to Wellington lie was convinced that it was in the interests of the country to have largo districts for Boards. Mr. Marchant said the scheme was well worth a trial. Mr. Bellringer said tiiey could only join in and see how the scheme worked. It, could bo taken for granted that the Taranaki Board would not expand largo sums of money before they knew that the scheme would work. Tho motion was carried.
