HEAVY TRAFFIC BY-LAWS.
CONFERENCE OF LOCAL BODIES. A conference of County CounoinTin Taranaki was held at the office cf the Hawera County Council on Thursday. The following Councils were represented :• —Hawera: Messrs Dints, Dunlop, Tarrant, Murdoch, Winks; Taranaki: J. Brown and I). Me All urn; Pa tea, G. V. Pearce, ALP., and Wilson; Eltham, J. T. Quin, J. Best, S. King, W. ,7. Tristram; Eguiont. W. C Dudley; Clifton, J. W. Foreman; iStiafford, G. A. March-ini. Mr W. Duirs, chairman of tho Hawera County Council, presided. The* object of the conference was h. Lame by-laws, more, particidarlv those relating to traffic on roads, with a view to getting uniformity for the whole of Taranaki provincial district. Tim following proposals were agreed upon.— Two-',wheeled Vehicles. T v.’o-wheeled cart or Cray carrying a load of : newt to 1 ten, 3-iimli tyres. ] ton to 1) ions, .p-iuch ivies. I.) tons to 2 lons, f-mcji tyres. 2 tons to 2.J tons, 5 incti tyros. 2,i tons to 3-V tons. 7-iucii tyres. No two-wheeled cart or dray shall carry more than 3J, tons. Fcur-wheeled Vehicles. Four-wheeled vehicle carrying a load cf:— fiewt ft 1 ton on each pair of wheels, 3-incli tyres 1 ton to 1.) tons on each pair cf wheels, 3|-inch tyres. If tons to/ 2 tons on each pair of wheels, 5-inch tyres. 2 tons to 2i tons on each pair of wheels, 6-inch tyres. No four-wheeled ’ehide shall cany morn than 2|- tons to each pair of wheels. The schedule framed for the computation of loads is as follows; New Zealand timber, 450 superficial feet 1 ton. Australian timber, 350 superficial feet, 1 ton. One cord firewood, 2ocwt. One cubic yard gravel cr stone, 25 cv/t. 350 bricks, 1 ton. 11 sacks wheat,, 1 ton. ■ 14 sacks oats, 1 ton. 11 sacks bailey, 1 ton. 12 sacks potatoes, 1 ton. 11 sacks maize, 1 ton. 5 bales wool, 1 ton. 30 sacks oaten sheaf chaff or 50 sacks straw chaff, 1 ton. 1'- cubic yard or 10 sacks cord, 1 ton. 1 gallon muck, 10 lbs. These proposals will bo submitted to all the Councils vvhicn w. re summoned to the conference and it is hoped that by these means uniformity will prevail throughout tho Waitotara, T'atoa, Hawera, Waimato, f Egniont, Stratford, Taranaki and Clifton Counties. ■ 1 Regarding; motor regumtions.
