PERILS OF THE SEA.
ARRIVAL OF THE FELICIANA. (Per Press Association) Wellington, July 4. An unexpected arrival in the stream at Wellington to-day was the big tramp steamer Feliciana (West Hartlepool), which put into port for bunker coal and Lloyd’s survey. The vessel is in a bad way, and, to use the words of one of her ofiicers, “JL never expected her to rc'ach here.” Hie heliciana is of 7700 tons burden, and is owned by the well-known Furness Lino, of London. She was proceeding in ballast from the Chilian port orTalcaluiauo to Australia, but a succession of gales of hurricane force drove heV far out of her course. Her coal supply ran short, and to make matters worse her machinery get out of order. As her propeller could not “take water,” the after cargo hold was flooded ivith water so as to weigh the vessel down and let the propeller get a grip on the water. The Feliciana is under the command of Captain F. R. Clarke, R.N.R., who is well known in New Zealand waters.
