A THREATENED STRIKE. (Per Press Association ) Dunedin, Last Night. It is understood that trouble is brewing amongst the coal miners at Green Island. It is stated that some miners Avent to Avork in one pit on Sunday in contravention of Lie Coal dines Act, and that one of the men vho so offended was discharged. Jt is rumoured that this is resented by me miners ,who allege that the man has been victimised. The matter avul >e discussed at a meeting of the Mini's’ Union to-morrow night. GIRLS GO OUT. Dunedin, June 3. A strike occurred at Ross ami Glendining’s Roslyn avoolloii mills this afternoon, some 30 girls employed in -fie worsted spinning department ceasng work. It is stated they objected ■’ personal grounds to Avork with two it her girls. Mr. Glendining had a conbronco with the strikers, but ivith---t result. He states he expects the girls will return to Avork to-morroAV, and if they da not others will be engaged in mcir places.
