TWO WOMEN DROWNED. Ottawa, July T. The s.s. Spokane, which carried 150 excursionists, was run ashore in a sinking condition. Two women became panic-stricken, and leaped overboard/ Wireless called the' steamer Admiral Sampson, which rescued the passengers and crew. The Spokane is probably a total loss. • One of the victims is Mrs Williams, the wife of a Washington millionaire, who made a fortune in African diamond mining. CHARGE AGAINST THE CREW. (Received 3, 8.5 a.m.) Ottawa, July 2. The Spokane’s passengers assert that the crew grossly mismanaged the rescue of those aboard. When the vessel struck, the male passengers aided the women to escape to the boats. One woman gained the beach after leaping overboard. The other was drowned aboard the vessel while seeking to escape. The previous report was incorrect.
