Meredith (chairman), AlcCluggage, Davis, Anderson, Jones, Aicilroy, and Roberton. * : Engineer’s Repart, The engineer (Mr E. C. Robinson) reported as Yellows: Following on the letter from the Public Works Department ,ro expenditure of Uoyernment grants, X nave prepared a draft copy ’of applications to ho made, winch is attached herewith, for the consideration of the Council. Heavy rain just after last Council meeting did considerable damage to roads generally throughout the County ,out the new work suffered most. On the contract recently completed on J’apuni Road' the first filling was washed clean out, through a slip coming down, and blocking the culvert. The new work on Upper Mangaehu Road slipped to;a considerable extent, but not enough to block traffic. A washout occurred on Brewer Road, near Makahu, but this lias since been repaired ny the foreman. A culvert ’which partly broke m on Makahu Road has been temporarily repaired, but will require renewal at an early date. Repairs to deck and hanuliails of Kirai Road bridge have been made, also to two flood openings on the same toad. Tlie small cut authorised throilglf a; point on Mr Mcil- ' ray’s 1 propbity has 'been completed, also" tne 1 ro;ld portion of the main draiii. 11 General maintenance work ’ has been’ carried out, on Brewer, Chula, Mtlkaliu, and Mahakau Roads during the mouth. The making pi the tobtpath authorised in Whaugainohiona township has been carried Out. Repairs nave been made tfc V'p.ia,. Wliaugainpmona, Tyohuratahi, Wiiitiauga, Arangaowata and Tahara Roads, hut a good deal of work is still necessary.. The main road has also been patched to a certain extent witu metal from the Prospect Roaa papa kiln. ; Tne Onura Road is, now* tver, in* a very hud state, owing to the concentration ol uranic on it' due to railway wonts; but tue situation is unavoidable, and tne oiuy tniu fe tnac can be aone is to wait until next season tor me Department to reinstate the T oad. -as wiiT be seen uy tne correspondence, several. portion., or roaus tmougnouc the Vyiiaagamoxjoua district ukve qcou vested m tne vjounty. T would draw tne attention of tue Council tne fact that tne present time of the year is «, particularly unfortunate to iiuVe to take over tut control oi network, which, with tut very wet weatlifir wnicu is mevitauit at siicn a season, is certain to sup noavily, and in’.‘so doing cause .tuw comity Heavy' expense in, tub matter or repairs. x 'would suggest taut tne attention of , tne Government he drawn to vans' matter, wren a request tiiat iuiure vestu'ig snoum take piace uui'iag tue summer moiitus. Tne I’euewai ot a large cuiVert oil Makahu xtoad. 3. xvepairs to junction Xtonu, whicn is baoiy hi need ol tiieiii. 4. Repairs to ixoliuratalii and Mangaowata Roads. The Uiiura Road nas slipped considerably opposite Ngatimaru railway station, at a point whicn the Ftiolic' Wprks Department consider to be under county control, but which is still possibly a Government road. Tlie Gazette notice defines the mid of the county portion as being 86 miles 68 chains from Strafford. I propose, however, haying the road chained up from the 86rnile peg (which I assume is in the correct position), in. order to determine the end of our length beyond question.
