THE DAIRY INDUSTRY.

Sir,—As the time will soon he drawing near for the directors of our hatter factories to pat on their considerin'- caps, as to the best means of disposing of our butter', 1 am sending on for publication (hoping you w>!l bo able to find space) two articles trorn the “Dairyman” for June. Apparently these articles were written ref ore Mr. J. 0. Harkness read his paper at the recent conference in .Palmerston, wherein ho stated (inter , alia) that there'were ’three ways «t doing business in' disposing of output. Briefly, be said, they may he summarised as follows:—“Spot cash,” “Advance without recourse,” and “Open consignment.” The first-nam-ed, Sir Hark ness goes on to say,, is a form of gambling;' tire second as nothing but a bastard sale; and the third he strongly advocated, despite the fact that this system has resulted in the loss of about £50,000 to tire 'New Zealand suppliers, as it is well known we were offered 11-]d last sprung. 1 think you will agree that both articles are of great interest to dairy farmers, and well worthy of publication in your widely-read paper.
