SECRET POLICE DRAMA.
PLOT Ai\ v D SUICIDE. ' M. Raskaltoff, chief of the secret police at Archangel, has committed filicide. The local newspapers explain the motive of his act as follows : Not long since M. Kostogoroff, an Archangel millionaire, received an anonymous letter informing him in the name of a group of political exiles t.. oid not deposit a sum of 000 at a certain place and at a certain time the face of his only daughter would ho watered with vitrol. it was added that it would he vain on his part to go to the secret police. M. Kostogoroff, on receiving tlio letter, wont to the gendarmery headquarters, and the authorities arranged an ambush for the designed rendezvous. M. Kostogoroff, when the time arrived, placed the envelope at the spot indicated. A man with his face more or I'ess concealed, walked r.undlv towards the cache. Gendarmes seized him, and he was somewhat roughly handled before his identity was discovered. Ho was the head of the secret police. The gendarmery officer tried to explain away the incident to his men, and M. Raskaltoff was not arrested on the spot, hut he shot himself before the -i Hair could ho officially investigated.
