0 GIRL’S DARING CRIME. HER INGENIUOS ESCAPE. Details have been received in St. Petersburg of the shooting of M. Efimoif, the prisons inspector at Vologda, whore a'number of political prisoners were recently subjected by his order to severe floggings. The attempt on his' life was made during a performance in the principal local theatre. The curtain was being lowered. when a girl, seated in one of tiio front rows of the stalls, drew out a revolver and fired live shots at M. Efimoff, wounding him severely ia the neck and arm. Mine.' Profiting by the panic caused among vile audience,, the girl, who was dressed in black, run out into the foyer and escaped into the street by an emergency exit, crying out, “The theatre is. 0,1 fire,” and so explaining her liight. Her escape is the more extraordinary inasmuch as the performance in the theatre being in aid of the reformatory for youthful criminals, the house was full of gonclarmery and police officers. Moreover, after tiic accounts published of the Volgoda hoggings, M. Efimoff received {several threatening letters, and detectives were supposed to bo guarding him. It has boon ascertained that the assailant cams to Vologda from St. Petersburg. Her lodging in Vologda has been found, but she herself did not return there alter the crime. f l lie most elaborate measures have boon taken to ensure her capture. All the roads out of \ ologda arc strictly guarded. The railway trains are watched. Patrols arc to lie seen everywhere. Innumerable searches have been made in various parts of the town, and ten women, mostly political exiles, have already been arrested on snsmcion.
