There was fine, cold weather, with a blustering wind, for the Festival of Empire sports. Tho attendance was good. Canada was' greatly applauded lor her single-point victory. Results : 100yds.—Halbans (Canada) 1, Macmillan (Britain) 2, Upio (New Zealand) 3. Time, 10 2-ssoc. Half-mile.—Hill (Britain) 1, Wheatley (Victoria) 2, Brock (Canada) 3. Hill, sprinting tho last hundred yards, boat Wheatley by 2.V yards; indies separated' Wheatley and Brock. Time, linin 58 3-ssac. 220yds Race.—Halbans 1, Opie 2, Haley (Britain) 3. Time, 23sce. 120yds Race.—Powell (Britain) 1, Lukeman (Canada) 2, Brown (Victoria) 3. Time. IGscc. Milo Race.—Tait (Canada) 1, Owen (Britain) 2, Haskins (New Zealand) 3/ Time 4min 26 l-ssec. Haskins and Owen started lame. Tho hurdle race was won by Powell (Britain) by half a yard.
BOILER EXPLOSION. o ON A RIVER BOAT. (Received 26, 8.5 - a.m.) New York, Juno 25. A boiler oxnloded on the river packet St. Joseph, at Memphis, and five negroes were blown into the river and killed. Several "others of the crew wore mortally injured. Tho vessel burst into flames, and a ferry boat ran alongside and quesseci them. The passengers escaped, some being slightly injured.
