THE RECIPROCITY WAR.
FIGHTING DEMOCRATS. MR. ROOT PESSIMISTIC. Washington, Juno 24. Twelve Democratic senators have decided to vote against all amendments to ithe /Reciprocity Bill. This action, it is explained, is likely to load to the destruction of the DemocraticInsurgent Republican coalition. The consideration of Mr. Root’s amendment is fixed for Monday, and several senators have privately admitted that there will be a vigorous effort to add the Democratic amendments to the Reciprocity Bill in order to get it past the President. Mr. Root admits the likelihood of the defeat of his amendment. MR. TAFT’S DETERMINATION. Washington, Juno 25. Mr. Taft will veto any Tariff Bills submitted to Congress, and is determined to pass the Reciprocity Bill. (Received 26.' 8.5 a.m.) Washington, June 25. On being informed of President Taft’s intention to veto the tariff amendments, one speaker (Mr. Clark) declared that the whole of the tariff ought to bo revised. Should the Republicans in the Senate defeat the Bills the Democrats would appeal to tiie people.
