A BAND WANTED.

(To tho Editor “Stratford Post.”) Sir, —The want of a band .was a very notable feature of the Coronation Day procession, the proceedings throughout being comparatively dull for lack of band music, which is always looked upon as a necessity when anything in the way of a procession has to he gone through. It is a standing disgrace to tho town that there is no hand in existence, when it is remembered that there are in the town a large number of young men well qualified and willing to give their services to the town to supply band music. As is well known the Borough Council owns a set of instruments which are at present in the hands of in organisation called the Stratford Town Band, which has not, however, yet done anything in the direction of supplying music for the public. Tho band turns out weekly to play at His (Majesty’s Theatre, so that they should have been able to turn out and to brighten up the Coronation Day procession. In the past when the baud has been under municipal control it lias had a successful career and at present it would seem to be high time that the Borough Council considered the advisability of once more calling in the instruments and reorganising the baud, taking care that tho proper measure of control shall remain with the municipality. To make the band a success it will undoubtedly bo necessary to subsidise ;i conductor, but one should be obtained .for a salary of £SO; and if it were promised, as it should be, that tho public would hear the band play on the occasion of public demonstrations, it is safe to say that the business people of tho town would readily subscribe at least that sum. There is a sum of money lying in the bank which could be used for tho erection ;>f a band room, and a site was chosen, so there seems every reason why a move should now bo made to get a band for the services of the public. I am, etc., MUSICUS.
