MU. HARNESS’ SUGGESTIONS. (Per Press Association.) Palmerston North, June 21. Mr. J. G. Harkness read a paper entitled “The Old Land as viewed from the new, in regald to dairy produce trade, being the result of investigations at Home on behalf of the Association.” After giving comprehensive information, Mr. Harkness made the following suggestions:— Unit tho Government ho asked to establish a properly equipped laboratory' 1 and experimental station, presided over by a competent and capaoie chemist ; that the Government snout, 1 ho asked to approach the I ailed Slates with a view to obtaining some concessions in respect to the heavy embargo at present existing against dairy produce, as thei o_weie tlyio the elements ofia lucrative and'increasing trade; that advertising I.e lone at Home, tho cost of winch should he shared by the exporters as well as their London agents, tie adoption of a universal brand, ‘ New Zealand Produce,” with a regist re I number foi identification purposes, to replace tho present undesirable mill-, tiplicity of brands from a selling standpoint; grading and maintenance ot a lugii standard of exports. Papers were also road by Mr. J. Burt. Veaie or the working of a dairy farm, and Prof. T. W. Kirk, Government BnJi.gist, on diseases ami pests in farmers oi (.nurds and gardens. FIATEMENT BY HON. T. MACK ENZJ E. Palmerston North, June 21. . The Minister for Agriculture, addressing the National Dairy Conforencu to-day, said , the Government’s ’representative in London would not clash in any way with the Association’s representative, who Mould attend to tiie commercial side, whilst the Government’s representative would pay special attention to tho scientific side, and particularly to the condition ol the produce on arrival.
