By six votes to three the Lcvii Borough Council negatived a- proposal to raise £250 by a special rale spread over two years for erecting public baths. This amount would have beer, •subsidised pound for pound by tin Government as a Coronation gift. THE PE LOTAS. o (Per Press Association.) Wanganui, June 20. Mr. T. M. Lane, one of the owners of the barquentino Pclotas, stranded mar tiic .mouth of the river, was in town last evening, and made a survey ol the vessel’s position from* the beach. It is not yet decided whothei an attempt will bo made to got the vessel off. It is wholly a question oi finance. The vessel, which is hitler, with hardwood, is settling down in the sand, though apparently no great harm lias been clone to the hull. There is no insurance on the vessel, though the cargo is covered. It has boon suggested that a hole will he made in the stern from which the timber will bo salvaged. A start was made tin's morning to remove the top-gear, sails, stores, etc.
