LOAN PROPOSALS.
BRIDGES DEFERRED. DRAINAGE GONE INTO. LARGE WORKS PASSED. A special meeting of the Boroimh Council was held last night for the purpose of further considering the loan proposals. After considerable discussion it was finally decided to deal only with 'the work "Inch would drain into the present system.The Mayor moved that ‘ certain fj ß’,99v ß bo drained, when Cr. King WW tiijit an estimate be obtained of the cost of draining the whole of the Borough. Ho was ruled out’ of • order, being pulled up by CF Healy. Cr. Morison then moved the adjournment of the Council, and urged that an estimate be, obtained for the whole work. He thought this was tho best way to do the work. I lie motion for adjournment was lost. i 1 ’ NORTHERN. . . The Mayor then moved that Pembroke Road from Broadway to Hamlet Street, Seytou Street from Broadway 1 to'Hamlet Street and Hamlet Sheet from l 'Regan Street to, Pembroke Road be included in the scheme. - CiV Boon seconded. The motion was carnal. Or. Boon moved that the Overseer be instructed to take levels to jnove whether or not it would be possible to drain Regan Street and down Swansea Road in connection with the present'.system.
The Mayor said that if there was to ;be a separate system, it struck him that it would bo ,wtter to cuain this locality into it. The motion was lost.-
: ' Cr. Mbrison moved that the whole of tiie north-west quarter, from Hamlot Street to Broadway, l»o included in the scheme. ' If, he said, such gullies as had already been included were put in, there was no reason why the portion ho mentioned should not be done. In fact, what had teen done seamed to indicate that the whole of the Borough should bo drained. The Mayor seconded the miction, which was carried. The Mayor moved that Regan Street, from Broadway to Hamlet Street, be included. ' Cr. Paget moved, as an amendment, that the drain urocaod to Pi ocon Road and along Brecon Road. Cr. King seconded. ■ He thought the scheme would get on better if the whole of the Borough'was included. Or. Hcaly said the works already passed were dealing with quarteraero sections, while on Brecon Road the sections were two, three, and four acres. The amendment was, lost, and the motion carried. Olivia Street was also .'>iclud3d. Cr. Healy said some councillors seemed to ho putting forth, a scheme ■to drain only The town as it existed; but they had to think of future expansion. The Mayor said that __ in a . few years Olivia Street would be thickly populated. ft was decided to instruct the ' Overseer to report on the connections in Miranda Street, oetweon Regan Street and the river. >. On Cr. Boon’s motion, Orlando Street, from Regan Street to Fenton Street, was included. Cordelia, Sylvia, Rosalind, Fenton, and Falstafr Streets were included on Cr. Paget’s motion, who glso moved that if this drainage cannot go into Cordelia Street the Overseer report if it can go along Regan Street and do|Wp Swansea Road. i ■ -i SOU I HERR. Cr: King moved that an estimate be I 'obtained for the work from Broadway" 'to Hamlet Street and from Page Street to Celia Street. On lus motion., also, the block between-- Ariel Street and Broadway and Celia and, Lear Streets was included. Romeo Street to Hamlet Street and along Hamlet Street was included on Cr. Paget’s motion. Cr. King had Romeo Street, from Juliet Street to Cordelia Street, along Cordelia Street to Celia Street and part of Ariel Street included. The piece of Ariel Street draining into Celia Street was also included. NORTH-EAST.. ;; ■ Civ King moved that an estimate he obtained of the cost of laying sowers in the north-east quarter, and also the cost of a septic tank. Cr. Boon seconded. Cr. Paget said it comnvttee had reported on the matter. _ The correct thing to do was to consider fiiat .report at next meeting. The Mayo’- said the dpmmittee had no report to speak of. Cr. Healy thought the matter should i)o referred back to the committee for a report. Cr. Paget moved that Crs. King, Hcaly, and Boon and the Mayor bo a committee to report on ’.be quarter. Cr. Lawson seconded. Cr. Boon thought nothing could be done until the committee knew the levels. With the permission of lus seconder, Cr. Paget was allowed to alter his motion to read that the Overs33l- re-, port.. . . / The motion was carried. ESTIMATES AND LEVELSCr. King moved that the Overseer be instructed to take levels and rrepare estimates for all works passed' that evening. The motion was carried.
