NO-LICENSE CONVENTION
PROSPERITY UNDER PROHIBITION. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, June 10. Tho afternoon was occupied in hearing statements regarding the operation of no-licenso in prohibition areas Tho Roy. W. G. Elliott, Ashburton was convinced of the'beneficial effects of uo-liccnso, and said tho industrial md commercial, prosperity was in no way retarded. The town was clean and prosperous. Messrs 'l'. J. Bull (Mataura), Frog put (Invercargill), Rev. W. J. Wil:iams (Oainani), Rev. J. A. Hosking Clutha), J. Watkinson (Grey Lynn). P. Mae Skinning (Brnco), D. McGregor (Mastcrton), Rev. F. Thomson (Waihi), L. A. Faulkner (Eden), all •poke of the improvements which were said to have followed the carrying of no-liconse. i’ho convention closed with a women’s mooting in the 'Town Hall in tho evening, when a crusade was inaugurated against the drink traffic. Mrs A. R. Atkinson presided. 'The speakers wore Miss Anderson Hughes and Mr Barton. The lattei said tlie young women of New Zealand were going to form a union and pledge themselves, “Lips that touch wine shall never touch mine.” At the conclusion of tho meeting the women stood and repeated the 1 ‘Crusader pledge.’ ’ THE PE LOTAS.
