PUBLIC DEMONSTRATION. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, June 14, The Town Hall was crowded tonight, when a public demonstration in favour cf the principles of the New Zealand Alliance was held. Mr. Yvos!e;s Suragg, president of the Alliance, presided. Addresses were hy Lieut.Colonel IJirkonshaw (provincial head of the Salvation Army), Miss Anderson Hughes, Rev. L. M. Isitt, Mr. A. S. Adams, Rev. J. Dawson, and Mrs. Barton, an ex-momber of the Glasgow City Council. The Rev. Isitt said the gathering celebrated the “silver wedding” of the New Zealand Alliance. This movement hound together all the temperance activities of the country. The party had kept united all the time, and was never hotter welded than now, and members of the party were never more convinced of the logic of their case. The appeal for funds resulted in a collection of £32 IGs. 'The following resolution was passed —“This meeting, recognising that women arc most deeply interested in the question of prohibition of the liquor traffic, rejoices to learn of a movement to organise a women’s crusade in connection with the coming campaign, and the women present voting for this resolution promise to join in the crusade and to do all in their power to forward its objects, and carry both local no-license and national prohibition at the polls in November next”
