Sydney, Juno 13. A citizens’ meeting was held in the Town Hali to further the objects of the Mawson Antarctic expedition. The Lord Mayor presided, and the LieutGovernor, Professor David, and others, addressed the meeting. It was decided to start a fund aud to ask newspapers to support the movement. Continued heavy rain has caused seriotis floods in Gippsland. Many dwellings are not habitable. Enormous damage- has been done to winter feed, and crops of onions and potatoes in pits have been destroyed. Farmers have been forced to remove their families from the eastern half of Gippsland, which is deserted. The Yarra is higher than it has been for years, and is overflowing its banks in several places. Many vegitable gardens near Melbourne were destroy- «. ed.
