Statistics regarding* the frequency of cancer have been published by Dr.' Jacques BoiTillon, head of the Statistical Department of the Villo do Paris.' Ho stated that cancer is more common in towns than in the country, and shows an evident preference for the colder regions. Comparing the statistics furnished by foreign countries. Dr. Bertillon says that northern lands show a much higher percentage. Thus for JOO,OUU inhabitants there were 101 deaths in the Netherlands, 100 in Norway, and 91 in England, while in t he centreof Furore tin propoi tioir falls considerably. Austria numbernig 78, !■ r.an i- 7i>. and Prussia 7 I, and gradu;il!v diminishes as the Mediterranean is approached, Italy showing 01 deaths, Spain 48. and Hungary 42. Dr. Bertillon further states that the frequency of cancer is on the increase, and that in 1908 there were 30,-121 deaths from the disease in Franco, and in 1909 31,053 in England.
