The committee in connect! m with thy recent visit of tho Irish National delegates hold a final meeting. The total amount raised for the Homo Rule Fund in Palmerston was £155, loss £ls expenses. Levin and Foxton were worked from Palmerston and realised £55, Shannon about £25, and Feilding £B4, so that the district contributes over £3OO. WAIHT MINERS. Wellington, June 12. The position of the Waihi minors, whose demands have been refused by the gold-mining companies, was considered yesterday and to-day by tho executive of the New Zealand Federation of Labour. Although the Government does not intend to observe the Prince of Wales’ birthday as a public holiday, it cannot interfere in any way with the awards of the Arbitration Court by declaring that that day shall lie observed on another day, which is a national holiday, and which has been proclaimed for a specific purpose. ALLEGED INCENDIARISM. ELTHAM RESIDENT ARRESTED. (Per Press A.ssociation.) Eltham, June 12. An enquiry was held to-day before Mr Kenrick, S.M., touching the fire on January 23rd, which resulted in burning down a farmhouse belonging to John Robertson, and which was occupied by him and a share-milker named Nicholas Albert Maddern. Robertson had the. house and contents insured in the Now Zealand office for £IBO, tho claim being immediately settled. Maddern also had a policy in the Guardian office for £l6O on the furniture and effects, including a piano belonging to Robertson, which was already insured. Maddern’s claim was not settled, pending tho enquiry. The Magistrate found that, the house was wilfully set on ti’c, with intent to defraud'the Guardian Insurance Company. Maddern was subsequently arrested. / Accused subsequently came before Mr Kenrick, S.M., and on tho application of Detective-Sergeant Jdodclam was remanded to Saturday, 17th ipst.
