UNSATISFACTORY HOTEL MANAGER.

APPLICATION FOR LICENSE ADJOURNED. At the meeting of the Egmont Licensing Committee at Eliham yesterday, in respect to the application of Mary Cramp, for tire renewal of the license of tao Eltham Hotel, ths police report contained an • objection relative to James Price, manager of the hotel, on the ground that he used bad language, it was mentioned that lie had neon convicted on a charge of using obscene language. Mr. T. B. Crump, who appeared for applicant, said that the only notice given of the objection was a verbal notice yesterday, and they did not know exactly what they had to face, lie had been instructed to say that the engagement of Price had been terminated, and that he would probably bo away from the hotel altogether, even as a lodger, in the course of a few days. The Chairman thought it would never do to grant a license with a man like that about the place. The police report stated that Mrs. Cramp mid more than once told Price to ,S° and he refused, nr came back again. Personally he did not think that the license could bo granted until the committee was satisfied that Price was clear of the premises. Air. Crump pointed out that the licensee was desirous of conducting the hotel in a way that would meet with the approbation of the police and the committee, and as a matter of fact it was being well conducted, the only objection raised being the one under notice. The Chairman was of opinion that a man who used obscene language was not a proper person to have _.nvthing to do with the conduct A a hotel. If this man returned to die hotel after being told to go the licensee could got the assistance of die police to remove him. After consultation the committee decided to adjourn the application ioi fourteen days so that proper notice might bo given. It would lie open m applicant to see that the man left the premises before tlult date, and that he was not going to be allowed to return, or she could come for waul to show that ho was a proper person to bg on the premises. Mr. Crump said ho was quite satisfied with that arrangement.
