Advice just received from England intimates that the Chapter-General oi the Order of St. John of Jerusalem has selected Mrs. W. H. Eisln r, horn wary secretary of the District NTirsbig Guild of St. John, Wellington, hf i mpmher of the Order, and that the ••'lection lias been sanctioned hy the King. DUSONIG PLAGUE. AUCKLAND AVAILING UP. (Per Press Association.) Auckland, Juno 2. On the recommendation of the medical inspector, the City Council has ordered the removal, within twenty-one days, of thirteen dwellings reputed to he unfit for occupation, and dangerous to the public health. The Council lias also ordered the cellars of two restaurants to l;o remodelled and made rat-proof. Structural alterations hare heeii ordered in the collar of one hotel. It was further resolved to take steps to compel lessors in a street containing property built on Harbour Hoard leases to have the basements made water-proof and rat-proof.
