Sergeant Cullen lias received the following circular from the Chief In •■peetor of the Labour Dopni tmont “in role; mice to the observance o the Sovereign’s Birthday, dune 3rd as there appears to bo some mi,sap prehension in regard to this matter i have to explain as follows for you information “in regard to the Public Holiday; Act: Altuough there was a proposal hia.de that under the Public 'Holiday.' Act certain holidays, including tig Sovereign’s Birthday, should be Mon dayised, this proposal was not carried into effect as far as the Sover cign’s Bi'thclay was concerned. Under the Public Holidays Act the only holidays Mondayiscd are Labour Day. which is to be observed on the fourt.l Monday in October, and Dorninioi Day, which is to be held or. the fourth Monday in September. If (ho Sovereign’s Birthday falls on a Sunday, it must be observed on the following Monday. The same applies tr Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. in which case Boxing Day is to bt hold on Tuesday.

These holidays must be given in addition to the regular weekly halfholiday (which is on Saturday, unless the day is changed to the day observed by shops under section 36).
