IMPERIAL CONFERENCE.
(Received 25, 8.5 a.in.) London, May 21. Sir Joseph Ward, in moving Ins Imperial Council resolution, said the remarkable growth of the overseas dominions required the gravest consideration of statesmen to prevent difficulties which might in future be almost impossible of settlement, but which mightJ>o dealt with now. He believed in 25 years the combined populations of the overseas dominio.is would exceed that of the United Kingiom. Those controlling the Ecepir.Vs destinies would have to const L>r Jus expansion. The experience of the United States showed what tromondono changes might take place in regard to nationality. He believed they would have to face snob a problem owing to the rttructiveness of the overseas for settlement to people of different languages to onr own. Unless the question of emigration and immigration was tieatcl Imperially, and anxious vate taken to keep our own people vitbin the Empire, onr future strength might be dissipated ,and the best of the population spread amongst alien countries. amongst alien countries. The Conference adjourned until Thursday.
