For r.o;;ic time past not much has booh heard of the Stratford .Mountain House, wliieh now, of course, is closed; hut the question of raising funds for the improvement of the track and the house lias not altogether been forgotten. The Chamber of Commerce, which in the past has done much in the matter, has kept it steadily in view, and it was further discussed last night. The discussion arose out of the rending of a minute of the previous meeting appointing n committee to see about raising funds. Mr Young said the idea was to get a Cl for Cl subsidy from the Government. Mr James said a fund should be started for improving the track. Money would come to the fund in many ways. hater on, when no amusements wore going on, there could ho a dance in aid of the hind. Mr Richards thought it would he a good idea to start, an association to look after the interests of the Mountain. In other centres much had been done by Beautifying Societies. ' Mr James supported such a movement. The Mountain, lie said, was the most neglected asset that Stracford had. . Mr Kirkwood said that, althongn the Hon. Mr Mackenzie seemed to hold out no hope of the Government giving u pound for pound subsidy, u Stratford could produce money m hand the Government might change its attitude. ’ . On Mr Kirkwood’s motion the matter was held over till next meeting, the committee sat up to go into it to report to that meeting.
