COMMERCIAL.
The following is Mr Newton King’s weekly butter and cheese report from Messrs It. and W. Davidson, of London and Glasgow, under date 13th April:— CONTINENTAL BUTTERS. The market this week has been very unsatisfactory, and prices show a reduction of Is to 2s per cwt. The weather during the past few days has been much milder, and Home supplies should now come forward very rapidly. Owing to the Easter holidays the Copenhagen market was declared yesterday, the quotation being reduced 4 kroner. DANISH AND SWEDISH. • The total arrivals of Danish to this count),’.v during this week show an increase of 713 casks. The market lias l)ocn very dull, the advance of 3 kroner on Danish last week being ignored by buyers on this side. Stocks have not been entirely cleared. With the reduction of 4 kronor advised in Copenhagen yesterday, we anticipate that trade will lie very much better next week. To-day’s quotations for strictly choicest llGs to 118 s. , SIBERIAN. The arrivals arc now showing a considerable increase, the total quantity for the past week being about GOOO casks. Choicest goods continue to meet with a steady demand at prices ranging from 102 s to 104 s. Secondary and cold stored goods appear to be more enquired for, but good value is still obtainable in these at 91s up to 98s. Inferior quality is very difficult to move, and prices remain irregular, ranging from 80s up to 925. COLONIAL BUTTERS. Australian.—The qaiintity forward .this week is again very small, comprising the s.s. Macdonia with 17,070 iinxes and the Wakool with 1400 boxes. There has boon a good active demand for choicest goods, which appear at the moment to he rather' scarce. Secondary, however, continues to he overplentiful, and prices on this grade, arc very irregular. Wo quote choicest qualify 102 s to 103 s, choice 90s to !00s, secondary from 88s up to 9ls. Saltless continues scarce. Anything on offer meets with a ready sale at extreme prices, choicest quality being quoted 109 s to 110 s. Now Zealand.—The s.s. Athcnic with 33,993 boxes and the Mntafua with 3128 boxes are now discharging. The demand has been iairly active, and stocks are being well cleared. Chov-i'.st quality may bo quoted 108 s to 109 s. CH EESE. Canadian.—The demand continues fairly good. Prices arc again firmer, choicest, white and coloured G3s. Now Zealand.—There is a good active demand. Market continues very jir;n, and prices have advanced dining the week Is per cwt., choicest white and coloured now being quoted G2s Gd to G3st.
