A conference of delegates of 10-aI councils was held on Saturday t> discuss the matter of auctioneers’ licence fees, which, it was thought, should he paid to the whole district. No decision was arrived at, except to hold another conference. In regard to small birds, the counties agreed to reduce the price paid for old birds from Is to Dnl a dozen, fid for eggs and young birds as before, hut no countv was hound to hnv nnv. It is stated that Geraldine had paid £IOOO and Levels County ,-GfiSD last year. It was said that the birds had net de* creased, and many said that many had been pa'd for twice over through supplying poisoned wheat and paving for poisoned birds. ]( was agreed that this must cease. AIT. Buxton, present member. Air. AAA Jeffries, candidate at last election. Col, TTavhnrsl. and AIT. Cl. AAA Armstrong. all three Oppositionists are mrnlhned ns probable for Geraldine at next election.
