AVIATION.
ASTOUNDIN'O FLI OHTS. Tiis progress mode in aviation is so astounding tliesc days that one can hardly keep tally of the remarkable feats recorded. What would have amazed the world a couple of years hack is to-day accepted as almost an event of litis'or no importance. Every day brings its fresh records, with the icsult that the public now realise that almost any feat is possible with an aeroplane, and when same arc reported in cold print appear to lie little appreciated by the ordinary reader. Jn Europe astounding (lights are being almost daily recorded, and little or nothing is hoard of them in'this country. A truly wonderful performance was, for example. recently achieved in Franco, when M. Vcdriue How across country from Poitiers to Paris, following the railway lino, a . distance of at least 200 miles, which was accomplished in 2hr. 12min, or an average spaed of ninety miles an hour. This is a feat that two years back would have startled tlio world—-to-day it has not caused a rinnlo of excitement or interest in this country. If space can bo annihilated in "this way after aviation has boon in existence only a few years, what will . the future bring forth?
