COW TESTING ASSOCIATIONS.
o BASIS OF GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY. Tho current issue of the Journal of the Department of Agriculture states that in order that the principle of cow-testing, imperative in the work of advancing the standard of a dairy herd, may be generally introduced in all dairying districts in tho Dominion, and the important question of the economical production of milk be thereby advanced, the Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. T. Mackenzie) has authorised assistance to cow-test-ing associations under the following conditions:— 1. No association is to subsidised by tho Department for more than two years. 12. The number of associations to he subsidised at any given time is to bo as many as the number of available instructors will admit of. At the present time this number is she. 3. As soon as each association has boon subsidised for two years itsplace is to be filled by another association, to lie chosen according to circumstances. ■l. in addition to this subsidising of a few associations, the Department will assist by means of advice, and a little practical help at the beginning, as many other associations as settlers are willing to form. Note.—“Subsidise” as used herein moans that tho Department gibes the services of a dairy instructor for organising the association and for tostinig tho samples throughout the season; works out and publishes the results.; and provides free the necessary forms, glassware, acids, etc.
