The Stratford Evening Post WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED THE EGMONT SETTLER. MONDAY, MAY 22, 1911. ADVANCEMENT.

Stratford's growth and progress of late have been very marked features of tho tide of prosperity which has set in—permanently, we sincerely hope—for ' Taranaki. Possessed of many natural advantages, well-situat-ed, and well settled, the country for many miles on cither hand, is capable of great possibilities, and as this country develops so must the town which serves as its principal local market. Those who have grown up with Stratford have witnessed interesting changes, and will have noted the advancement that many business concerns have made, sometimes from quite small beginnings. ■ Not least, perhaps, of the Stratford enterprises which have kept pace with the times is tho “Stratford Evening Post,” today presented to our readers in eightpage form for the first time. It is not a very far cry to the days when Stratford had to be content with a tri-weekly newspaper of its own, excellent journal though it was, and taking everything into consideration, we think the proprietors of this newspaper are to be congratulated on their enterprise and confidence in the district’s future in taking the step they have to provide a bigger and better daily paper for their readers. It only remains for our friends to recognise that a district’s newspaper largely reflects that district’s character, and so that wo may take it the best .possible, lend their hearty support. In November last the “Stratford Post” installed the latest pattern and most up-to-date linotype machinery, and today wo print our first issue with the most improved Duplex web printing machine. Sanguine people anticipate a big increase of population in this district: with such a plant tho “Stratford Post” is certainly prepared to welcome the influx.
