THEFT FROM ARMOURY AT HIGH SCHOOL
.303 Rifle And Binoculars Missing
The armoury at the Southland Boys’ High School was broken into on Monday night and one .303 rifle and a set of old binoculars were stolen. Hie thief or thieves levered back the galvanized iron sheeting of one of the walls of the armoury to gain admission. The armoury is housed in an iron shed near the shooting range at the southwestern corner of the school sports ground. About 300 rifles of .303 calibre and a dozen or more .22 rifles are kept there. It is possible the thieves sought ammunition, but it is understood there was none in the armoury. Twice in the last two weeks thieves have been at work at the Boys’ High School. About a fortnight ago they broke into the prefects’ room in the main school buildings and stole £8 in cash.
