CONDITIONS IN POLICE FORCE
Alleged Discontent Denied NO COMPULSION ON MEMBERSHIP (P.A.) WELLINGTON, November 20. “I have heard nothing about any discontent in the police force,” said the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, today, when an Auckland report of discontent with the conditions _ and of the “disturbing” rate of resignations from, the force was referred to him as Minister in Charge of Police. Mr Fraser said there was not a word of truth in the suggestion contained in the Auckland report that legislation to compel men to remain in the force was contemplated. “That statement, he added, “is just .as silly as it is untrue. He also said that the relationship between the Commissioner of Police and the men in the force had never been more harmonious than at present. In many parts of the country the police were labouring under disadvantages concerning buildings and accommodation, but the . difficulty was being overcome as speedily as the present difficult building situation would allow.
