“KIWIS” APPEAL TO PUBLIC
PLAYING TO PACKED HOUSES The Kiwi Concert Party has found audiences in Invercargill which have welcomed the class of entertainment its members are producing. Last evening the Kiwis again filled the Civic Theatre to capacity and with a potpourri of rapid-fire numbers in song and story, attractively presented from every angle, they won the hearts of almost every member of the big audience Every item was applauded, some more than others, and even after the final curtain had been rung down and the National Anthem had been played and sung there were many who continued to applaud. Such was the reception accorded the second presentation of “Maadi Gras.” The young men who have built up such a high standard of entertainment are now seasoned troupers, but the naturalness and sincerity which mark all of their work remains with them. They are fresh and enthusiastic and those attributes are reflected throughout a long, but fast-moving series of sketches, musical items, dancing and nonsense.
Once again the female impersonations and singing of John Hunter won instant appeal. .In lighter vein Phil Jay, the “comedienne” of the party, also won high marks for clever impersonation and patter. “Her” Girl Guides sketch was particularly well played. The whole company, orchestra included, deserves praise for its work. Tonight “Demand Performance” will be presented and this programme will give the company another opportunity to display its talent. It is a bright show by a happy band of versatile players.
