(Special) WELLINGTON, October 7. Following is the special forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office this evening for the period ending 5 p.m. tomorrow;— A cold front is expected to move over the South Island today. There is a deep depression to the south. Moderate to fresh west or southwest winds. Weather cloudy, with scattered showers near the coast. Temperatures cool to moderate.
After a frost of eight and a-half degrees the weather in Invercargill on Saturday was fine and sunny. Similar conditions prevailed yesterday after three degrees of frost.
The weather at one o'clock this morning was 'cold, with a fresh westerly wind and..light rain. The barometer reading was 29.84 inches (rising). THE TIDES.— High water, Bluff, 3.21 a.m., 3.34 p.m.; Invercargill, 4.02 a.m., 4.15 p.m.; Riverton, 2.21 a.m., 2.34 p.m.; Oreti Beach, 2.30 a.m., 2.43 p.m. THE SUN.— Rises 6.07 a.m.; sets 7.03 p.m. RAINFALL (From our observer at the airport, by courtesy of the Public Works Dcpartriicnt).— For the 48 hours ended at 5 p.m. yesterday no rain was recorded. \ --
