(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 28. “The people of the United States will never forget the part played by the Government and people of New Zealand in this long bitter struggle,” says Pre- . sident Truman in replying to the Prime Minister’s victory message. He adds: “They will remember with everlasting gratitude the hospitality extended to American forces in New Zealand during the dark days before the early campaigns in Guadalcanar and Tarawa. The -unflinching spirit and confidence shown by the people of New Zealand and the splendid performance of their armed forces throughout the historic world struggle contributed in no small measure to the hastening of this hour of triumph.” The President added that the two countries could look forward to continuing the. close relationship of .mutual confidence to the end that peace and prosperity should be permanent.
