PEACE CELEBRATIONS AT MATAURA

Mataura entered unrestrainedly into the spirit of the peace celebrations. The chief attraction on the second day was a fancy dress procession and sports. The procession was led by the Mayor and councillors and members of the R.S.A. through the streets to the recreation reserve. Some originality was shown in the design cf the decorated floats, from which crepe paper and bunting streamed on to the spectators. The passengers on the floats added to the din by blowing on a variety of instruments, which, although not always in harmony, represented the spirit of the day. Entertainment was provided by parties on the floats. The same spirit of light-hearted revelry marked the proceedings during the night, when dancing, singing and merrymaking were enjoyed.
