TAR-SEALING IN CITY
Thirteen Streets To Be Surfaced The tar-sealing of 13 city streets has been planned for the coming season. Outlining the programme yesterday, the chairman of the Works Committee of the City Council (Cr R. T. Parsons) stated that preparations had been made by grading, flank trimming and so on for the sealing of Yarrow street, Jackson street, Bowmont street, Tyne street, Elies road (between Tay and Tweed streets), Liddel street, Scandrett street, Manse street, O’Hara street, Martin street, John street, Antrim street and Clifton street.
Describing the work which had been or was being carried out in the city by the council, Mr Parsons stated: “Drains have been cleared extensively in the reclamation area and the embankment walls have been repaired. Footpaths and streets are under continuous repair by gangs of men. The footpath has been reconstructed in Forth street near Clyde street, and a path in Bank street is being laid down in tar-macadam. Preliminary formation work has been done in Exmouth and Abbott streets. Besides these special jobs there were a considerable number of men continuously employed on sewer and stormwater drain upkeep work, installing sewers, drains, and water services, streets scavenging and on private works such as garage crossings. Five patrolmen vzere constantly employed on footpaths and flanks work in their respective districts.
