OTAGO PRODUCE MARKETS

SMALL CONSIGNMENTS OF WHEAT (P.A.) DUNEDIN, August 10. Small consignments of wheat are still arriving on the market, and as these have all been threshed from stack the quality is reasonably good. With the arrival of Canadian wheat in the Dominion it is not expected that millers will go short of their requirements before next harvest is available. It is difficult as yet to estimate the extent of the spring sowing in the Otago district, as the farmers are still in the course of preparing the ground. Releases of fowl wheat are ample to keep the local market supplied. Sales of oats are slow, particularly for undergrade lines. There is a move at present to persuade the Government to permit the export of a limited quantity of oats to Australia, comprising feed Gartons, Duns and Algerians. Stocks of these are accumulating throughout the South Island and there is very little outlet for oats of this quality in the North. . Ample supplies of chaff are offering, but the demand is strictly limited as there is no shipping inquiry. Prices remain unchanged at up to £7/10/- a ton, ex truck, Dunedin, sacks extra, for best quality. Supplies of good quality potatoes on the local market are still short of requirements. Consignments are being received from Canterbury and Southland, as well as from local districts. The seed market continues quiet, with little interest being shown by overseas _ buyers. Odd inquiries are still being received for Italian ryegrass, high-testing perennial ryegrass and Montgomery red clover, but no interest is being displayed in cocksfoot, crested dogstail, Chewings fescue or Browntop.
