TREES BY TE RANGI BOWLING GREEN
CONFERENCE TO BE HELD
The proposal that trees on the waterworks reserve at the corner of Yarrow and Doon streets should be removed or topped is to be discussed at a meeting of representatives of the City Council, and of the Te Rangi Bowling Club and a resident of the neighbourhood who originally raised the question by asking that some of the trees be topped and others removed. The Te Rangi Bowling Club is opposed to the removal of the trees because they act as a break-wind. The club considers that if the trees were removed the green would be exposed to the strong south-west winds.
At a meeting of the City Council last night the Reserves Committee reported that a resident of Gala street had written asking that trees near the Kelvin street intersection should be topped because they were shading his property. It was decided to reply that operations for dealing with the trees in the area were now in progress.
